Whole-Health Coaching. Creating a ‘Well World’

My mission as a Whole Health & Wellbeing Coach is to go beyond the current ‘one size fits all’ health culture, into a new one. One that believes in honouring individualism, peoples uniqueness.

Why? Because no two people, however seemingly similar, are indeed the same.

It’s time for the current outmoded health care system model to have an upgrade. It’s time to move towards a new ‘all embracing’ whole-health care system.

Whole Health isn’t a new idea. In 1948 the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity..”

They emphasised social and personal resources as well as physical capabilities are a part of health.

“The extent to which an individual or group is able to realise aspirations and satisfy needs to change or cope with the environment . . . health is a resource for everyday life, not the objective” .
                                WHO

Rather sadly, it received some heavy criticism. Described, at the time as being excessively broad, vague, and unmeasurable. In subsequent years to date, health care focuses more on a biomedical reductionist model, rather than on achieving that more holistic vision of health.

What do you think, as you read this today?

People are not compartments. We all function at our best when ‘all’ of us is in best health. Our Mind, Body and Energy working with us rather than against. Chronic health issue symptoms when treated in isolation have been shown to produce poor results ‘v’s’ a whole health approach.

‘We live in a world where symptom suppression is the status quo for healthcare. This means that, rather than looking for and addressing the underlying root cause of an illness or ailment, many healthcare professionals focus on simply managing or reducing the symptoms. This symptom suppression approach is failing us and leading to long-term health issues, which could be avoided if a root cause approach was taken instead.

I envisage a health and wellbeing landacape where allopathic, natural and science based practices join together and complement each other. Ultimately, to help people get the best care possible. Enabling them to make better informed ‘right for them’ health and wellbeing choices and decisions.

Why are current health system not working as well as they have the potential to?

Most health systems today address a persons health issues by zooming in on their current set of symptoms. Followed by a suppression of (physical & emotional) symptoms approach. In the short-term this may seem like a convenient solution, but unfortunately, it can cause more harm than good in the long run.

If we choose to suppress symptoms rather than address the underlying cause of an illness or disorder, the body tends to find different ways to express itself. This can result in deeper rooted problems and further complications.

Therefore, seeking a treatment that gets to the root of a problem in order to achieve lasting results has to be better for all of us.

It’s time to herald in a fresh, new approach to how we see our health, health care future and look forwards to new standards in health care for everyone……

Creating a ‘Well World’

Embracing all of us. Whole health (holistic) thinking, functional, practical tools and the positive power of great lifestyle choices with modern science. Moving our personal, personalised version of best health for ‘us’ needle in the right direction. We all deserve to build, create, a better, healthier, wellness focused world for ourself and everyone.

What’s meant by the term ‘Whole Health’?

'Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.’

World Health Organisation (WHO)

'Whole health is physical, behavioral, spiritual, and socioeconomic wellbeing as defined by individuals, families, and communities. To achieve this, whole health care is an interprofessional, team-based approach anchored in trusted longitudinal relationships to promote resilience, prevent disease, and restore health. It aligns with a person's life mission, aspiration, and purpose'.

How can you start creating, helping yourself to better health?

4 tips to boost your ‘Well World’:

  • Food - It’s important to eat a healthy, balanced diet to ensure your body & brain gets everything needed to function properly. Try to eat at regular intervals. Avoid snacking and aim to have eaten your last meal by 7pm. An early finish helps promote good, full digestion. Drink enough water throughout the day to help stay hydrated and energised. Limit your alcohol intake or avoid drinking alcohol. And ditch ‘Ultra Processed Foods’ whenever you can. Opt for fresh whole foods as much as possible. Relish knowing exactly what’s gone into your meal.

  •  Movement - Make getting some form of regular physical activity a priority. Movement is a powerful tool for strengthening both your physical and mental health. It doesn’t have to mean ‘pumping iron’ at the local gym, or boring. Find something fun, enjoyable. Something that you can do on a regular basis, consistency is key. Start small. Keep it simple.

  • Sleep - Put an emphasises on a regular bedtime routine. Use blackout blinds or curtains in your sleeping area. Reduce screen time, especially 1 hour prior to bedtime. If a busy mind is contributing to your poor sleep, try experimenting with relaxation technique’s before bedtime eg. meditation, or ‘gratitude’ journaling. Remember you are unique What works for one person may not for another. If something doesn’t work, find another practice that does.

The detrimental effects of poor sleep are numerous and well documented. Sleep deficiency can interfere with work, relationships, school, driving, and social functioning and on…..

  • Relaxation & Stress management - Rest means different things to each of us. It might be a walk, sitting down with a book or magazine, listening to music, or a form of activity, a hobby.

Find your own prescription for rest. That means any activity (or inactivity!) you find relaxing, that helps you switch off and forget your worries for a while. Then prescribe yourself 15 minutes of this guilt-free rest time each day. Find the right stress management tools that work best for you. .
